ICYE Program

What?

Long-term voluntary work programme (6-12 months) during which volunteers live either with local host families or in dormitories or single apartments within the work projects. Most of the projects last 12 months but for some countries it is also possible to host volunteers for 6 months.

Asia and Oceania: India, Japan, Nepal, New Zeeland, Taiwan, South Korea, Africa: Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Morocco, Mozambique, Uganda Latin America: Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Columbia, Honduras, Mexico

Who can go?

Mainly 18 to 30 year olds. However, age limits vary according to the destination country. Nepal, Mozambique and on special agreements Bolivia, Kenya and India can accept over 30-year-old volunteers.

Programme price and what it includes

The programme includes:

  • Maailmanvaihto support and communication
  • 4 days' training in the home country
  • A minimum of 5 days of further training, including a 30-hour-long language course in the destination country with a competent teacher
  • A mid-year camp of at least 2 days
  • A final evaluation camp of at least 2 days in the destination country at the end of the voluntary work period
  • A returnees camp in Finland of at least 2 days
  • Travelling expenses to Maailmanvaihto camps in the home and destination country
  • Full board and lodging in the destination country
  • A small pocket money
  • Daily transport to the voluntary work place
  • Comprehensive health and accident insurance along with third party insurance
  • Visa expenses
  • Local ICYE office services and support
  • Activities and support services to adapt back home after the voluntary work period

Programme price:

whole year 4300e
half a year 3500e

N.B. Travelling to the destination country is not included in the price of the programme

 

For what is the participation fee money used?

The participation fee is used to cover the costs related to the voluntary year and its organisation such as insurances, camps, language courses, etc. ICYE does not maintain a huge international administrative apparatus and as an organisation it does
not pursue economic profit.
