At the end of January, a young volunteer from Uganda called Ben arrived in Lahti through Maailmanvaihto. Now, Maailmanvaihto is looking for a host family for Ben. Would you like to have cultural exchange at home?
Ben will volunteer at the kindergarten for six months, until July 2023. The co-operation aims at advancing intercultural understanding through daily cooperation.
Hosting a young volunteer is a voluntary activity that offers a great opportunity to be of help, gain international experience at home, strengthen language skills, and view one’s own environment from a new perspective.
For the first moments of the volunteering period we have already found a host family for Ben, but we are still looking for a host family for a longer period. We are primarily looking for a host family for the rest of the volunteering period 6th March – 12th July (a little more than 4 months), but it is also possible to act as the host family for a couple of weeks or months.
Who can become a host family? Anyone interested in sharing their daily home living with a new family member and getting to know the young volunteer and their cultural background. The host family offers for the volunteer accommodation and food.

“Hello, I am Ben and I am from Uganda aged 24 years old. I speak English and Luganda. I am a simple guy who loves getting new friends, experiencing other cultures, and learning new languages. In my free time, I usually watch movies or have a walk. I also like listening to music and playing soccer. In volunteering, I want to learn the Finnish language and about cultures in Finland!”
Who can become a host family? Anyone who is interested in getting to know a new person and their cultural background as well as sharing their daily living with a new family member! The family provides the volunteer with accommodation and daily meals.
