ICYE: Asia and Oceania

In Asia and Oceania, ICYE volunteers are received in Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

In Indonesia, the ICYE volunteers mostly work in kindergartens and schools. Volunteers are received also by, e.g. special schools and a home for the elderly. Most of the voluntary workplaces are situated on Java island. The volunteers live either in a host family or at their voluntary workplace.

 

Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

In Japan, the volunteers work for the local communities and assist in farm and environmental work. Voluntary work is available also in a special school for children and youth, among disabled people and the elderly as well as in a rescue and caring center for animals. The volunteers live at their voluntary workplace.

N.B.! In the program in Japan, the participants must pay in addition to the participation fee costs caused by renewing their visa.

 

Nepal ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต

In Nepal, many of the volunteers work om schools in which they teach English and assist also in other daily school tasks. Voluntary work is available also in, for instance, health care. The volunteers in most cases live in a host family but in some cases at the voluntary workplace.

N.B.!ย One can volunteer in Nepal for 5 months starting from January or 6/10 months starting from August.

 

New Zealand ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

In New Zealand, many of the ICYE volunteers work among children and youth, in schools and camping centers, for instance. Volunteers are received also by a living community of disabled people, for instance. Most of the voluntary workplaces are situated on the Northern island. Accommodation in most cases at the voluntary workplace.

 

Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

In the Philippines, the volunteers mostly work on tasks related to supporting people with low-income and sick children. They also work on tasks related to strengthening the local communities and assisting in schools. Voluntary tasks are available also in GIED. The volunteers live either in the accommodation space of the coordinating organization, at their voluntary workplace, or in a host family.

 

South Korea ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท

In South Korea, volunteers can get involved in local communities through their work with children, young people, and the elderly in welfare and activity centres. Together with community members, volunteers organise activities such as sports, arts and crafts and English language classes. In at least one of the centres, people with and without disabilities are involved. Volunteers stay in the YMCA hotel.

 

Taiwan ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ

In Taiwan, ICYE volunteers are received especially by schools. In addition, voluntary tasks are available in centers for disabled people and in a home for the elderly. The volunteers live either in a host family or at their voluntary workplace.

 

Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ

In Thailand, volunteers assist in teaching English in rural schools. At a learning center, volunteers also get to take part in gardening and maintenance work. Participants with first aid skills can work with a rescue team.

 

Vietnam ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ

In Vietnam, ICYE volunteers are received especially by the school world ย โ€“ educational institutes from primary schools to a university. In addition, voluntary work is done in support centers for disabled children and youth. Most of the voluntary workplaces are situated in Hanoi. Accommodation in a dormitory or at the voluntary workplace.
