Syyskuussa vapaaehtoistyöhön Islantiin (refugee support with the Red Cross Iceland)

Islantilainen yhteistyöjärjestömme AUS – ICYE Iceland etsii nuorta vuodeksi Islannin Punaiseen Ristiin. Jakso alkaa syyskuussa 2021, jos koronatilanne sallii. Tutustu, innostu ja hae!

• Description of project: The volunteer will work in the social support part of the refugee programme. Within the social support are two main projects; Open House where refugees and other immigrants seek information and practical assistance and Refugee Guide Project where refugees are paired with Icelandic volunteers for assistance throughout a 6 month period. There are also other activity
  programs going on to avoid social exclusion, give refugees positive experience of their stay in Iceland along with starting mutual integration right from the beginning. Within the programme there are fixed weekly activities. Fixed activities take place twice per week in the Capital area. Other activities take place 1-2 times per week. Examples of other activities are cultural seminars and a swap market for children’s clothes.
• Volunteer’s role: The main role of an ESC volunteer will be planning and running the Open house alongside the project manager and directing people from the Open House into the Refugee Guide Project and other projects. The volunteer’s contribution through their  ideas, initiatives and interests are very well appreciated. The volunteer is never solely responsible in the project and will always
  work together with another staff member or volunteer.
• The aim of the project: To work towards mutual integration, reduce social isolation and offer a platform for refugees to meet, connect, ask questions, socialize and learn about Icelandic society and culture.
• Task(s)/assignment(s) of the volunteer:
  • Take part in the planning and running of 2x weekly Open House
  • Take part in planning and running monthly cultural seminars for refugees (Welcome to Iceland)
  • Direct people from the Open House into the Refugee Guide and other projects
  • Assist project managers with follow up on participants in Refugee Guide Project
  • Be in regular contact with the group and project manager regarding Open house (i.e. answer emails and register participation online)
  • Attend a regular planning meeting.
  • To support and facilitate the Open House events
  • To timetable and announce Open house events
  • To provide training and information on the issues to the volunteers
  • To encourage the volunteers to attend Red Cross courses and other meetings concerning
  refugee issues
  • To facilitate a communication network between the volunteers Other requirements:
  • Social events programs (Open House) are currently held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in Reykjavík
  • The volunteer is expected to attend information-sharing meetings
  • The volunteer is expected to attend an Immigration course for volunteers who work with immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, Psychosocial Support course offered by the Red Cross during their first two months as a volunteer and a First Aid course in their first year.
• Requirements: The volunteer should:
  • Have good communication and organizational skills
  • be able to perform well under pressure
  • have a strong interest in the field of migration
  • be open to working with people of various backgrounds, showing patience and empathy
  • be fluent in English. Knowledge of any other language is an advantage
  • have basic computer skills
  • be willing to learn new things, but also to take initiative
• Practical Arrangements: Working hours can vary, the volunteer should never work more than the obligatory hours which are 35 hours a week. Should the volunteer be asked to contribute more because of special circumstances, he will receive hours off instead, those hours are to be negotiated with the project manager.
• Accommodation: The volunteer will live in a flat in Reykjavík with other ESC volunteers and will have a private room. Food: The volunteer receives food money for all meals except for 2 lunch meals/week received at the project. Allowance: The volunteer will get a certain amount of pocket money, every month.

Euroopan solidaarisuusjoukkojen vapaaehtoispalvelu

Euroopan solidaarisuusjoukkojen (ESC) vapaaehtoispalvelu tarkoitettu 18–30-vuotiaille ja sen rahoituksesta vastaa Euroopan unioni. Vapaaehtoistyöntekijälle kustannetaan:

• matkat kohdemaahan (osallistujan maksettavaksi voi jäädä pieni osa matkakustannuksista)
• lähtömaan tukijärjestön (lähettävä järjestö) tuki ja yhteydenpito
• kohdemassa tulovalmennuskoulutus ja puolivuotisleiri
• ylläpito kohdemaassa
• taskuraha
• päivittäiset työmatkat vapaaehtoistyöpaikalle
• kattava sairaus- ja tapaturmavakuutus sekä vastuuvakuutus
• tukea paikallisen kielen opiskeluun

Osallistujiksi ESC-vapaaehtoistyöhön etsitään ensisijaisesti nuoria, joilla on toisia nuoria vähäisemmät mahdollisuudet saada kansainvälistä kokemusta esim. työttömyyden takia.

Toimita viimeistään 5.5.2021 englanninkielinen ansioluettelosi ja motivaatiokirjeesi Islannin ICYE-järjestölle osoitteeseen aus@aus.is. Valinnassa asetetaan ensisijalle vapaaehtoiset Iso-Britanniasta, mutta paikkoihin voi hakea myös Suomesta. Voit mainita hakemuksessasi, että Maailmanvaihto – ICYE Finland olisi lähettävä tukijärjestösi Suomessa. Lähetä hakuviestisi kopiona Maailmanvaihtoon osoitteseen maailmanvaihto@maailmanvaihto.fi.

Harkitsetko hakemista, mutta epäröit koronatilanteen vuoksi?

• Euroopan solidaarisuusjoukkojen vapaaehtoispalvelu voidaan aloittaa virtuaalisesti, jos fyysisen ulkomaanjakson aloittaminen kohdemaassa ei poikkeusolojen vuoksi ole vielä mahdollista. Jaksoa jatketaan kohdemaassa, kun tilanne sen sallii. Vapaaehtoispalvelujakso on myös mahdollista koronatilanteen niin vaatiessa siirtää myöhempään ajankohtaan tai perua. (Ks. • Kannattaa selvittää lentoyhtiöstä, millaisin kustannuksin lennot olisi tarvittaessa mahdollista siirtää tai peruuttaa.
